Justice DY Chandrachud took oath as the 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI). President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice Chandrachud as the country's 50th CJI at a program held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Justice Chandrachud was also part of the benches which delivered path-breaking judgements on decriminalising same-sex relations after it partially struck down Section 377 of the IPC, the validity of the Aadhaar scheme and the Sabarimala issue.

The apex court had in November last year observed that the disclosure of names of big loan defaulters who owe Rs 500 crore and more to banks, would not lead "anywhere" as the important issue was to address "root cause" of accumulation of the non-performing assets (NPAs).
