Dy CM Shivakumar claimed that the results were precursors of the upcoming 2028 Assembly elections in Karnataka.
According to the ECI, in the high-profile Channapatna constituency, NDA candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy was trailing by 26,462 votes at the end of the 18th round.
BJP and JD(S) leaders had together campaigned for Nikhil in Channapatna.

The by-elections have been necessitated due to the disqualification of the 14 Congress and 3 Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) rebel legislators after they resigned from their respective assembly seats in July in protest against the former coalition government`s functioning.
