Widespread protests were held across the Kashmir Valley on Sunday against the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Sumbal area of Bandipora district, reported Greater Kashmir.

The rape of a three-year-old girl in Sumbal area of Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district has led to widespread protests across the Valley. Schools and business establishments in the area remained shut as protestors demanded the strongest punishment possible for the accused.

Authorities on Saturday lifted curfew across Kashmir following improvement in the situation, but normal life remained affected due to the unrest which erupted after killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani in July.

Needling India over Kashmir issue, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said India will be mistaken if it equates the freedom struggle of Kashmiri people with terrorism.

 The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Intelligence Bureau are keeping a close tab on several bank accounts in Jammu and Kashmir, to probe the inflow of huge funds, which has been reportedly used to fuel the unrest in the Valley. 

Fresh clashes broke out between protesters and security forces in Anantnag and Shopian districts of south Kashmir on Saturday even as curfew continued to be clamped in many parts of the Valley paralysing normal life in the Valley for the 29 consecutive day.

The Indian government strongly condemned Pakistan's encouragement and support to terrorists and their activities as the latter marked a 'Black Day' over the Kashmir unrest. 

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday extended the summer vacation in schools, educational institutions in Kashmir Valley in the wake of protests over killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant. 

Shah Faesal, a celebrated IAS topper from Jammu and Kashmir on Friday lashed out at the national media for making him part of its sadistic propaganda and drawing his comparison with killed Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist commander Burhan Wani.

Calling upon states to be vigilant and updated and to focus on intelligence sharing for strengthening internal security of the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked them to hold discussions on challenges and how to deal with them.

The wife and daughter of a police officer were on Tuesday beaten up by a mob protesting the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani in Awantipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

Several political leaders from the state and Centre on Saturday expressed profound grief and agony over the death of youths during protests following the killing of Burhan Wani.
