The affidavit comes as a reply to a writ petition by Kochi-based Kitex Garments Ltd. Kitex Garments sought a directive to the Kerala government to allow it to administer the second dose of Covishield to its workers before the completion of the 84-day dose gap.

India reported 47,092 cases on Thursday, marking a 12 per cent increase in the number of daily COVID cases on Thursday. This is the highest number of single day cases in the last two months. According to the health ministry, around 509 deaths were recorded during the last 24 hours. Out of which, Kerala alone recorded 32,803 cases (about 70 percent) and a third of the deaths.

The Kerala government has announced that a triple lockdown will be imposed at locations in the state where there are more than 10 COVID-19 cases detected among 1000 people.

Kerala, which is witnessing an alarming spike in daily COVID-19 cases, has further extended the weekend lockdown from this week. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “As large number of Covid cases are still being reported in Kerala, the team will assist the state in its ongoing efforts in Covid management.”
