20 people have been named in the charge sheet and are booked under UAPA sections 16,17,18 and 20.
The charge sheet was filed before the NIA court by investigating officer Radhakrishna Pillai.
This becomes the first time when NIA has used UAPA in smuggling case, which is usually invoked in terror cases.

According to local authorities, Sarith Kumar, a former PRO at the consulate and one Swapna Suresh, working with Kerala govt IT Company were involved in the gold smuggling racket.
