The World Bank has asked Pakistan to climb down from the demand of taking up the issue with the International Court of Arbitration.
Pakistan has time and again tried to block the project. But India's right to construct the project had been affirmed by the International Court of Arbitration.
Even the Pakistani daily reporting it seemed unsure of what this is supposed to achieve.
"The meetings earlier this week were held in a spirit of goodwill and cooperation. The parties have agreed to continue discussions and reconvene in September in Washington, DC," the World Bank said.
Pakistan's two parliamentary committees in rare joint resolution asked India to immediately suspend work on two hydropower projects in Jammu and Kashmir and agree on the constitution of an arbitration court to resolve the water dispute.
Pakistan on Friday asked India and the World Bank to inform it about all the dams and hydropower projects proposed to be built by India under the Indus Waters Treaty on the western rivers, and not just the two projects under dispute currently.
