A major tragedy was averted when security forces recovered five powerful IEDs, planted by Naxals, in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district.

A Naxal-affected village, Hadeli in Kondagaon district, on Sunday saw Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel teaching school children in the area.

Five Naxals, including a woman, surrendered before police in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district expressing disillusionment with the violent movement, a senior official said on Saturday. 

A local was unable to produce valid documents to explain the cash and jewellery he possessed and he was being interrogated to ascertain source of the money.

Three Naxals, including two commander rank cadres, were today killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bastar division, police said.
