Monsoon will be normal in the north and south India this year There will be 96-104% overall rainfall, the IMD has said El Nino, La Nina, positive and negative IOD are believed to have an influence over the Indian monsoon

Going back on its earlier forecast of "above normal" monsoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said the monsoon will be "normal" this year due to delay in La Nina weather pattern.

We are consistently predicting a more neutral state, with no La Niña or El Niño later this year, said Steven Pawson, Chief of Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO). 

More typhoons were forecast next month in China due to the La Nina phenomenon, authorities said on Thursday.

El Nino and La Nina are the warm and cool phases of a recurring climate pattern across the tropical Pacific Ocean called the El Nino-Southern Oscillation, or ENSO. 

The US' National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOOA) has also stated that 2016 is likely to beat 2015 as the hottest year on record globally.

The probability is improving for a La Nina event leading to a good monsoon in India which could provide a major boost to consumption, investment and GDP growth, says a Deutsche Bank report.  

IMD director-general LS Rathore told a press briefing that the Monsoon this year is going to be above normal.

Over the last 30 years, the seesaw’s wobbles have been more extreme, causing variations in sea levels up to three times higher than those observed in the previous 30 years.
