Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday (May 16) termed the death of 24 migrant labourers in Auraiya as "indescribable" sadness, saying such accidents are "not deaths, but murders".

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (May 10) urged the migrant workers in the national capital to stay and not travel back to their homes on foot, saying 'it's unsafe'. He said the government is arranging more trains for them. 

The government stated that the process of transporting the stranded migrant labourers was being coordinated by states.

Gujarat has been one of the worst-hit states due to COVID-19 in India and Surat has reported 30 deaths until now.

The Chief Minister also said plasma therapy was administered to a few COVID-19 patients and the initial results have been good.

According to police, one of their personnel received injuries in the attack and was rushed to a hospital.

Briefing reporters here, Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Information) Awanish Awasthi said the first batch of workers was brought back in 82 buses from Haryana on Saturday, and 11,000 workers will return by Sunday.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday (April 18) said that there shall be no movement of labour outside the State or the Union Territory where they are currently located. However, stranded labourers will be allowed to go to places of work within the state with conditions during the lockdown.

It is learnt that all the labourers killed by terrorists were from West Bengal and were working as daily wagers

The labourers, who belonged to the same family, were trying to clean the newly-built septic tank in an under-construction building in the Madhuban Kanti village.
