A Chinese soldier reportedly captured near Demchok area of Ladakh early Monday amid tensions between India and China along the Line of Actual control border seen last few months.

Commander level talks between India and China are scheduled for the seventh time tomorrow at 12 noon in Chushul amidst the ongoing tension over the LAC.

Amid the ongoing India-China standoff along the LAC in Ladakh, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday asserted that India never accepted the so-called unilaterally defined 1959 Line of Actual Control.

Rajnath Singh on Thursday (September 17, 2020) said that China continues to be in illegal occupation of approximately 38,000 sq kms in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The Defence Minister, while speaking in Rajya Sabha, said that “Chinese’ actions reflect a disregard of our various bilateral agreements.” Blaming China for the tense situation at the Line of Actual Control, Singh said, “The deployment of the troops by China goes against the 1993 and 1996 Agreements. Respecting and strictly observing Line of Actual Control is the basis for peace & tranquillity in the border areas.” “China also claims approximately 90,000 sq. kms. of Indian territory in the Eastern Sector of the India-China boundary in Arunachal Pradesh," he added.

The situation in Ladakh is now very tense as the armies of both countries are face to face. The soldiers of both the nation are in each other's firing range.

Amidst the ongoing LAC standoff and the diplomatic tensions with China, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has sought suggestions from the Commerce Ministry to curb imports from the hostile neighbouring country.
