Modi said the effort to eliminate leprosy from this country under the National Leprosy Eradication Programme is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision.

To raise awareness about the disease, World Leprosy Day was established and is observed internationally on January 30 or its nearest Sunday.

It said several key interventions needed to achieve the target of detecting cases early before visible disabilities occur, with a special focus on children as a way to reduce disabilities and reduce transmission.
