After Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday, he chaired the first meeting of the new cabinet at Sahyadri Guest House in south Mumbai.

The Maharashtra government has decided to distribute 'desi' (native) cows to farmers as part of a scheme, officials said on Wednesday.

More than an estimated 35,000 peasants - men, women, youth and even seniors - undertook a 180-km long march over six days in Maharashtra and reached Mumbai on Sunday.

Farmers' problems should be understood sensitively and practical solutions found for them, the RSS said on Sunday. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) General Secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi said there was a need to change the agrarian policy and the government has to ensure that farmers get a proper price for their produce.

The farmers' protest started from Nashik on March 7 to reach Mumbai on 12th. The protest in Nashik was staged by 25000 farmers from various parts of state. It will get close to 50 thousand on arrival in Mumbai.

The decision comes a day after the Devendra Fadnavis-led government set up a six-member team of ministers to look into the farmers' demands.

Sena, though a partner in the BJP-led government, has extended support to the farmers who launched the agitation for demands such as loan waiver on June 1.
