BSP chief Mayawati wondered whether there was collusion between the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently-concluded by-elections in Uttar Pradesh.

In the by-election to the Mainpuri parliamentary seat in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple is pitted against BJP's Raghuraj Singh Shakya.

"Akhilesh and I now stand together and there should be no confusion about this. I have accepted him as my leader," Mulayam Singh Yadav`s younger brother Shivpal said.

Ahead of the Mainpuri bypoll, the BJP leaders are accusing the Yadav clan of practising dynastic politics, as they have chosen Dimple, wife of Akhilesh, as its candidate for the seat.

Shivpal and Akhilesh Yadav, who have not been on good terms after falling out with each other following a turf war in 2016, have come together once again to retain the Mainpuri seat terming the win as a tribute to Mulayam Singh Yadav.

With the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll just around the corner, Shivpal Singh Yadav, president of the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) appealed to his party workers to ensure Dimple Yadav's victory.

Raghuraj Singh Shakya was once a close associate of Shivpal Yadav but quit his PSPL to join the BJP earlier this year. He was earlier in the Samajwadi Party (SP) and sided with Shivpal Yadav after he formed his own party. 

The Lok Sabha bypoll to Mainpuri has been necessitated due to the death of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Samajwadi Party has announced the name of party chief Akhilesh Yadav's wife Dimple as its candidate for Mainpuri parliamentary seat, which fell vacant after the death of Mulayam Singh Yadav.
