PM Modi said that Nasheed has always been a strong advocate of "deeper friendship" between India and the Maldives.

This comes after reports of a Chinese research vessel, suspected to be a surveillance ship, completing a 51-day deployment in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and the Arabian Sea in May this year.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the two leaders reviewed the entire spectrum of India-Maldives relations & reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the ties.
