The Indian government has revealed that over 33 lakh children in India are malnourished and more than half of them fall in the severely malnourished category with Maharashtra, Bihar and Gujarat topping the list.
According to UNICEF, due to a lack of access to basic needs, many children are malnourished they must lie in hospital beds.
Displaced families said that they do not have sufficient funds to feed their children, reported Tolo News.
According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 4 conducted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2015-16, 35.7% children under 5 years of age are underweight and 38.4% are stunted.
Stunting, or being too short for one's age, is a chronic condition of undernourishment that often starts before birth, which is a critical time for the development of auditory function.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has vowed to intensify fight against malnourishment and declared 2018 as "Nirog Bal Varsh".
