Sri Lanka's foreign minister on Friday accused the previous administration of using its embassies abroad as "safe houses" for murderers accused of perpetrating human rights abuses during the civil war.

The government did not immediately comment on the move, but it had promised eight months ago to carry out a review as part of reconciliation efforts.

The process to fix accountability as mandated by the latest UNHRC resolution for the alleged rights abuses during the conflict with the LTTE will be completely domestic, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera has said rejecting claims that it was a hybrid mechanism.

 External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met with her counterparts from neighbours Sri Lanka and Nepal.
