In a significant development for the residents here, indefinite economic blockade imposed by United Naga Council in Manipur five months ago is all set to be lifted from Sunday midnight.

With Manipur facing an indefinite economic blockade imposed by UNC, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today said the state belongs to all ethnic groups and majority should not disturb the minority or vice-versa.

In an hour-long meeting on Saturday morning, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) took the decision to outlaw the UNC. 

While petrol pumps are closed, roadside vendors are selling fuel at Rs 150 a litre.

The United Naga Council (UNC) on Wednesday said that they will continue with the economic blockade despite the announcement of Manipur assembly elections by the Election Commission.

Eleven suspected supporters of United Naga Council were injured when they tried to storm the Deputy Commissioner's office in Senapati district to protest creation of seven new districts, police said today.

The UNC had imposed the indefinite blockade on November 1 in protest against the government`s plan to create two new districts. 

The blockade was announced by United Naga Council (UNC) after the Manipur Government decided to upgrade Sadar Hills and Jiribam areas to full-fledged districts.

Vehicles carrying essential goods were stranded along the lifelines linking landlocked-Manipur due to the ongoing economic blockades, leading to spiralling of prices of essential commodities.
