The 28-year old suspect, a dual German and Russian national identified as Sergei V., had bought options on the day of the attack entitling him to sell shares in Borussia Dortmund at a pre-determined price.
It said he had bought 15,000 put options, or contracts giving him the right to sell Borussia Dortmund`s shares at a pre-determined price, on the day of the attack, using a consumer loan he had signed the previous week.
The team was buoyed before kick-off on Saturday as Bartra was released from hospital following surgery on a broken wrist.
Several players strongly criticised the decision to let the game go ahead so quickly after the attack, but none refused to play.
Federal prosecutor`s office spokeswoman Frauke Koehler said the probe was examining a possible "terrorist link", after three identical letters were found at the scene.
A letter found at the scene "claims responsibility for what happened", prosecutor Sandra Luecke said late Tuesday, telling journalists that "its authenticity is being verified".
The German police also said that they believe the three explosions that rocked Dortmund`s team bus ahead of a Champions League game were directly targeted at the club.
It was also reported that Spanish defender Marc Bartra has been injured and taken to hospital.
