Mark Vande Hei News
The Expedition 55 crew – comprising Anton Shkaplerov of Roscosmos, NASA's Scott Tingle, and JAXA's Norishige Kanai – continues to operate the station and will wait for the next three-member crew to board the orbiting laboratory in March.
The spacewalk originally was scheduled for January 29 but was postponed when a new LEE, installed during the spacewalk, encountered start-up issues.
The spacewalk is to be performed by NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei – who led the first spacewalk on January 23 as well – joined by Norishige Kanai of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
On Monday, January 29, Mark Vande Hei will lead another spacewalk, this time with crewmate Norishige Kanai of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), to complete maintenance on the robotic hand of the Canadarm2's robotic arm.
The spacewalk was the 206th in support of space station assembly and maintenance, the third in Mark Vande Hei’s career and the first for Scott Tingle.
This will be the first spacewalk of 2018 with Vande Hei taking the lead.
NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei currently residing in the ISS as a part of the Expedition 53/54 crew, recently posted a stunning image of 'Little Rock, Memphis, Jackson, New Orleans, Birmingham, Miami, and many places in between' all lit up.
The spacewalks performed by Expedition 53 astronauts will take place over a period of two weeks.
