The BSE Sensex jumped 49.19 points or 0.13 percent to 36,685.29 in early trade while the Nifty edged higher by 5.60 points to 11,058.60.
Meanwhile, on a net basis, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 3,210.6 crore.
Asian shares rose on Friday, driven by a rally in Chinese markets.
Top losers in the Sensex pack include TCS, Maruti, Hero MotoCorp, M&M, Axis Bank and Tata Steel, falling up to 3.38 percent.
The BSE Sensex jumped 113.83 points or 0.32 percent to 36,019.26 in early trade while the NSE Nifty edged higher by 27.35 points or 0.25 percent to 10,834.00.

The BSE Sensex jumped 84.37 points or 0.24 percent to 35,582.81 while the NSE Nifty edged higher by 22.40 points or 0.21 percent to 10,663.35 in early trade.
Sentiment was dragged by market heavyweights, with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd losing as much as 3.02 percent.
The BSE Sensex fell 149.31 points or 0.42 percent to 35,659.64 in early trade while the NSE Nifty dropped 42.05 points or 0.39 percent to 10,682.35.
However, emergence of buying in power, energy and PSU stocks in the last one hour of the session and covering-up of short positions by speculators wiped off most losses.
