The Mars 2020 Perseverance mission is the first step in NASA`s Mars Sample Return Campaign.
The Mars 2020 Perseverance mission is part of NASA`s Moon to Mars exploration approach, which includes Artemis missions to the Moon that will help prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet.
After a nearly seven-month journey to Mars, NASA’s first mission to collect Martian broken rock and dust, is slated to land at a tricky terrain of the Red Planet on February 18.
Known by the team as the "Seven Minutes of Terror," the entry, descent, and landing for Perseverance will be broadcast live as the rover arrives at Mars.
The Mars 2020 Perseverance rover will be launched through a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from the Space Launch Complex 41 in Florida.
The mission is designed to better understand the geology and climate of Mars.
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has built the Perseverance rover and will manage mission operations for NASA.
