The Supreme Court of India on Monday ordered that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR must be picked from the streets within eight weeks and kept in shelters. The court has directed municipal bodies and other agencies to work together to set up enough shelter facilities in this period. The aim is to ensure that stray dogs are safely housed and not left in public spaces, thus reducing the dog bite cases. 

Eleven people, including three children, were killed after a two-decade-old four-storey building collapsed in Shakti Vihar in the early hours of Saturday. The incident also left 11 persons injured.

Speaking at the 'Samvaad with Swachhta Sainiks' event here, he said while some areas, particularly those under the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), are well-maintained, others require significant improvement.

The Delhi High Court questioned why MCD officials failed to inform the commissioner about the non-functioning storm water drains in Rajinder Nagar, which likely contributed to the tragic deaths.

While interacting with protesting students, MCD's Additional Commissioner, Tariq Thomas, admitted that the incident was a 'failure' of the civic body officials.
