MEA said that India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests. India has asserted that it is being unfairly singled out by the US and EU for oil imports from Russia. India pointed out that the EU has recorded Euro 67.5 billion in goods trade with Russia.

US President Donald Trump threatened to substantially raise tariffs on Indian goods to penalize India for its continued imports of discounted Russian oil, accusing India of profiting from these purchases and funding Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. Trump’s threat came amid India importing nearly 40 percent of its oil from Russia to stabilize its economy and energy prices. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) strongly rejected the threat as “unjustified and unreasonable,” reminding that India began buying Russian oil after traditional supplies shifted to Europe and that the US had initially encouraged such imports to stabilize global energy markets. The MEA also highlighted the hypocrisy of the US and EU, which continue substantial trade with Russia despite sanctions, emphasizing that India’s imports are driven by national interest and economic security.  

Ahead of PM Modi UK visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a press conference and said that the activities of Khalistani extremists and related groups remain a serious concern for India.

While speaking during a weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal slammed Pakistan, saying that if Masood Azhar is in Pakistan, it exposes the country's duplicity.

In the weekly press briefing, Jaiswal informed the reporters that there are established procedures and legal avenues in such cases which India believes would be followed. He also apprised the media that the Indian government "was not informed in advance on the issue."
