Google had partnered Indian handset makers like Micromax and Spice to launch entry-level 'Android One' smartphones.

Homegrown handset manufacturer Micromax has become the first company to launch a bezel-less smartphone at Rs 9,999 with a display aspect ratio of 18:9, instead of the usual 16:9.

The app, which is available for download on Android and iOS platforms, will also assist potential customers to schedule demo requests.

Smartphone maker YU Televentures today said it has appointed Shubhodip Pal as Chief Operating Officer.

The company’s software team in Bengaluru is believed to be developing the forked Android OS and about 75 people in design teams have been acquired from Nokia’s R&D in Beijing.

The first sale is expected to take place on August 4 at 2PM, the registrations for which will end on August 3 at midnight.

Micromax's subsidiary Yu Televentures has announced that the Yu Yureka smartphone will be available for buyers without any registrations in India on Wednesday and Thursday.

Domestic handset maker Micromax on Wednesday launched its new smartphone – The Canvas Pep at a pricetag of Rs 5,999 and will be available across online and offline stores starting today.

The first device -- Joy X-1800 -- has a 1.76 inch screen, 750 mAh battery, 0.08MP camera, expandable memory up to 4GB and Radio FM. It is priced at Rs 699.

The only feature that is different is the 16GB internal storage which is an upgrade over the 8GB internal storage.

A subsidiary of Micromax, Yu Televentures, has partnered Cyanogen to offer customised user experience to end users.

Domestic electronics company Micromax will be unveiling its Android One-based smartphone on Monday. The handset will be exclusively available via e-commerce website Snapdeal.

The smartphone has aleady been available on two different e-commerce websites, eBay and Infibeam at Rs 9,299 and Rs 8,999 respectively.
