India is set to manufacture $80 billion worth of mobile phone components over the next five years, a new study revealed on Monday, adding that this will help the country become a global manufacturing hub with advanced local manufacturing.
The Videocon group Saturday started manufacturing mobile handsets at its Salt Lake facility in the city.
Government has set up a joint task force, which will include industry representatives from Samsung, Microsoft Devices and Lava, to rejuvenate nation's mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem with a view to achieve production of 500 million units of mobile handsets by 2019.
