In a yet another reported copying of mobile messaging app Snapchat which it once tried to buy for $3 billion, Facebook has announced a "Stories" format for Instagram that clones Snapchat`s popular feature.

 The mobile messaging app Snapchat is gaining popularity among US smartphone users aged 35 and above even as the app is likely to continue being popular among teenagers due to its concept of "self-destructing content", a media report said.

WhatsApp has extended group chat limit to 256 people from 100.

WhatsApp competes with messaging apps like LINE, Viber and Hike in India.

Mobile messaging apps Line and Kakao Talk are busy trying to conquer overseas markets such as Southeast Asia and India. But they may do well to keep a close eye on their home turf of Japan and South Korea as China`s WeChat amasses more users.

Mobile messaging company Snapchat is launching a new service that lets users send money to each other, in a partnership with online payments company Square.
