Before last 10 years, the telecommunication sector was mired in controversies, lack of transparency and therefore, growth of mobile services was stagnant.

The decision to restore mobile phone services comes days after Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik announced the withdrawal of security advisory for tourists from October 10. 

Mobile network and landlines connections were suspended across Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, in view of security concerns in the region following Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370.

All telephonic exchanges will be restored in the Kashmir Valley from Thursday, even as mobile phone services will be made functional in the districts of Kupwara and Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir. The move comes one month after the Narendra Modi-led central government revoked Article 370 and Article 35A in the former state, taking away its special status.

Schools beginning from primary level and all the Government offices will reopen on Monday. 

State-run telecom firm BSNL on Thursday increased per day data offering to 4GB at 3G speeds under a new prepaid mobile scheme priced at Rs 444 with 90 days validity.

Expressing concern over the poor quality of mobile services in the financial capital, especially on its lifeline rail network, Telecom Secretary J S Deepak on Tuesday said telcos will soon be asked to prepare an action plan on lines of one being uundertaken in Delhi to improve the services.
