Moderna and Pfizer had sought indemnity which would ensure that they can’t be booked in case of any adverse effect of the vaccine.
Earlier, in June, Moderna had announced that India has granted permission for its COVID-19 vaccine to be imported into the country for restricted use in an emergency situation.
Pfizer has not even applied for an emergency use authorisation in the country.
Cipla, on behalf of the US pharma major, has requested for import and marketing authorisation of these jabs
According to the sources, approval is likely to come anytime as the CDSCO is in favour of doing so
WHO has classified the coronavirus variant first found in India as a "variant of global concern"
They also said studies show the B.1.617 mutation spreads more easily than other variants
The first results of tests on the variants offer a glimmer of hope while more studies are carried out.

Food and Drug Administration authorized an emergency rollout of the vaccine developed by Moderna Inc. And the National Institutes of Health.
The move marks the world's first authorization for Moderna's shots.
The FDA reviewers said a two-dose regimen of Moderna's vaccine was highly effective in preventing cases of COVID-19.
They did not raise any specific safety issues with using the vaccine in adults over the age of 18.
