Mursi, a leading member of the Islamist group which is now banned in Egypt, died on Monday after collapsing in a Cairo court while on trial on espionage charges.

The burial was attended by members of the family in Cairo’s Nasr City after authorities refused burial in Mursi’s home province of Sharqiya in the Nile Delta, Ahmed Mursi said.

The public prosecutor said Mohamed Mursi had collapsed in a defendants` cage in the courtroom shortly after speaking.

Security and medical sources said the attack took place near Arish, the capital of North Sinai province, and two of those killed were officers. A brigadier general lost a leg in the blast.

Two Egyptian policemen were killed and one wounded when a group of wanted criminals opened fire on security forces in a village north of Cairo on Tuesday, state newspaper Al-Ahram reported.

An Egyptian criminal court sentenced 43 activists to life in prison on Tuesday, judicial sources said, in a retrial of anti-government protesters who clashed with authorities in late 2011.

The court also sentenced 80 people to life in prison and 34 to 15 years in jail. One minor was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 21 people were acquitted.

The air strikes "resulted in the killing of 12 highly dangerous . leaders of Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis", the military said in a statement. 

Public Prosecutor Hisham Barakat was killed in a car bomb attack on his convoy in Cairo, an operation for which Egypt blamed the Muslim Brotherhood and Gaza-based Hamas militants.

The court last week overturned a death sentence against Mursi in a separate case, meaning he no longer faces execution. 

 An Italian student who went missing in Cairo has died and an investigation has been launched into signs of torture on his body, which was found dumped next to an Egyptian road, security officials said on Thursday.

Egyptian security forces killed 12 Mexicans and Egyptians and injured 10 "by accident" on Monday, mistaking a tourist convoy for militants they were chasing in the country`s western desert, the ministry of interior said.
