Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma were hanged at 5.30 am on Friday (March 20, 2020) at Delhi's Tihar Central Jail. In her first reaction, Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi said, “Finally they have been hanged, it was a long struggle. Today we got justice, this day is dedicated to the daughters of the country. I thank the judiciary and the government.”

The trial court had earlier dismissed Mukesh Singh's plea and had asked the Bar Council of India to give appropriate sensitisation exercise to his counsel.

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday (January 28) reserved its order on a plea filed by Mukesh Singh, one of the four convicts in Nirbhaya gangrape case, challenging the rejection of his mercy plea by President Ram Nath Kovind.

The Tihar Jail administration has made preparartions for the execution of all four Nirbhaya case convicts. The four convicts have been asked if they would like to will their property.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday rejected the mercy plea filed by one of the convicts of the Nirbhaya gangrape case — Mukesh Singh — clearing all roadblocks to the execution of the four convicts. 

The date of execution of the four Nirbhaya rape-murder convicts is expected to move ahead as a mercy petition was filed on Tuesday evening by Mukesh Kumar before the President.

Ministry of Home Affairs sources on Thursday (January 16) confirmed that Union Home Ministry has received mercy petition of Nirbhaya gangrape-murder case convict Mukesh Singh from Delhi government. It is learnt that his mercy plea is currently under process and the MHA will send it to President Ram Nath Kovind with its recommendation.

The Delhi HC on Wednesday said that it found nothing wrong in the death warrants issued by Delhi's Patiala House court for the hanging of four convicts on January 22 at 7 am.

 Earlier on Tuesday, a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice NV Ramana and comprising justices Arun Mishra, RF Nariman, R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan dismissed the curative petitions of Mukesh and Vinay as they found no merit in their pleas.

The seizure was made during a search operation in Dewal village of Dilawal area of Kathua. 

Five years since December 16, 2012 gang-rape case of Nirbhaya, the four convicted rapists are yet to be hanged.

Defence lawyer A P Singh said he will file a review petition against the judgement.
