Rio had won even before voting in Nagaland Assembly elections as he was elected unopposed after his rival from the Naga People's Front (NPF) withdrew his nomination.

In the last Assembly election in 2013, Zeliang had won the seat by a margin of 2,636 votes.

Nagaland CM on Tuesday termed the newly- floated NDPP as a party engaged in politics without any agenda.

TR Zeliang has been sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Nagaland on Wednesday. 

The development took place after Nagaland CM Liezietsu didn't turn up for floor test, which was scheduled to take place today.

Naga People's Front supremo Shurhozelie Liezietsu on Thursday accused his Manipur counterpart Ibobi Singh of "playing a communal card".

He was today invited by Governor PB Acharya to form the next government after he emerged as the unanimous choice for the post and formally staked his claim.

An eminent scholar, Shurhozelie ​Liezitsu is one of the most decorated educationists in the Angami literature (the native language of the Angami tribe). 

Naga People`s Front leader Shurhozelie Liezietsu was on Monday elected the new legislature party leader of the ruling Democratic Alliance.

Zeliang said he, along with other Chief Ministers of the northeastern region, had earlier this year vowed to oppose the decision.

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang and members of the Parliamentary Working Committee (PWC) on Wednesday met NSCN-IM general secretary T. Muivah to discuss the status of the ongoing peace negotiations between the group and the Indian government.
