The BJP has fielded Vivek Bunty Sahu and several top party leaders have visited the constituency to campaign for him. Chhindwara is one of the six Lok Sabha seats where the first phase of the parliamentary elections is currently taking place.

Out of the 43 candidates, 10 are General candidates, 13 OBC candidates, 10 SC candidates, 9 ST candidates and 1 Muslim candidate.

The 60 seats that were discussed today included 14 each from Rajasthan, Assam and Gujarat, 16 from Madhya Pradesh and five from Uttarakhand, besides one from Union Territory of Daman and Diu.

Kamal Nath was once the closest confidant of Sanjay Gandhi, the scion of the Gandhi-Nehru family, who dominated the political scene during the emergency. He was later hailed as Indira Gandhi’s' third son'.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Kamal Nath remained mum on being asked about reports of a possible switch to BJP further fueling the speculations.

Speculations are rife that former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Kamal Nath and his son Nakul Nath, who is also an MP, may switch to the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on February 19.  

While the chief minister, a nine-time MP from the area, is contesting an assembly bypoll, Nakul Nath is hoping to get elected to the Lok Sabha from Chhindwara.

Nath has been the longest-serving Member of Parliament (MP) from this Lok Sabha constituency as he served for nine terms and he has now vacated the seat for his son.
