Trinamool Congress lawmaker Sougata Roy appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Narada case on Wednesday.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday alleged that Trinamool Congress MP Sultan Ahmed, who died on Monday, had been under extreme pressure as he was being probed by the CBI in connection with Narada case. 

The ED has registered a money laundering case in the Narada 'sting' where a number of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, including MPs and ministers, were allegedly seen on camera taking money.

The CBI on Monday filed an FIR against 13 people, including senior TMC leaders who were purportedly seen taking money, in the Narada case.  

With four of the Trinamool Congress leaders "caught" accepting "illegal money" in the purported Narada sting operation contesting the fifth phase of assembly polls on Saturday, it is seemingly a litmus test for West Bengal's ruling party which has been battling corruption charges levelled by the opposition.

The TMC had dismissed the videos as "doctored" and part of a "smear campaign" by its political rivals.

The Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha has sought explanation from five Trinamool Congress MPs, who were allegedly caught in a sting operation accepting cash last month.
