NASA has confirmed that the rover, which was launched this summer, will touch down in Jezero Crater, an ancient delta on the Martian surface, at around 2:25 am IST on Friday. Hundreds of critical events must execute for the Perseverance rover to land on Mars safely.
The golf-cart-sized rover was designed to travel 1,006 metres and operate on the Red Planet for 90 Martian days (sols).
Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders said that sending crews to Mars is ridiculous as unmanned missions are cheaper and there is no mass curiosity as such.
NASA on Wednesday stated, that India ranks third in the global list with regard to the number of names submitted for the Mars mission.
It cites delays in the development of the Orion service module, provided by the European Space Agency (ESA), as well as technical risks from changes in the design of the capsule's heat shield.
Officially called the 'Mars Ice Home', NASA's working model is an inflatable, inner-tube-like device that, when inflated fully, is covered with a thick sheet of protective ice.
