The Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) criticised Modi for not announcing additional funds to the state`s coastal and northwest districts, which are reeling in the aftermath of the August floods during his two-day visit to the southern state on Thursday and Friday.  

The Bihar deputy CM alleged that the opposition was trying to politicise the situation instead of supporting for the cause prevailing in the state.

Union Minister for Finance Arun Jaitley, Minister for Agriculture and Farmers` Welfare Radha Mohan Singh, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and other senior officers of the ministries of Home, Finance and Agriculture attended the meeting.

A decision in this regard was taken in the High Level Committee (HLC) meeting, headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The central government on Monday approved the release of monetory assistance for seven drought-affected states, the home ministry said in a statement.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi for early release of Rs.4,741 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) for farmers who suffered hailstorm damage to crops in 2015.
