Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday invited Norwegian pension funds to invest in the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund as he met Norway's Prime Minister Erna Solberg, who gifted him a symbolic football.

New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday discussed the operationalisation of India`s first Rs 40,000 crore sovereign wealth fund, the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF).  

The US has said it will support India's endeavour to find ways to fund its massive drive for building modern infrastructure and to create more jobs.

Seeking investments from the UAE, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Wednesday said investors from the Gulf region could participate in India's maiden sovereign wealth fund NIIF, which has been set up to fund infrastructure projects.

The proposed Rs 20,000-crore National Investment and Infrastructure Fund will function as a sovereign wealth fund like Singapore's Temasek and operate at "arm's length" from the government, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said on Friday.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved creation of a Rs 20,000-crore National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), a sort of sovereign fund, for development of infrastructure projects, including the stalled ones.
