Retail prices of rice are yet to be under control despite restrictions on exports and bumper production in 2023-24.

The Consumer Affairs Ministry on Friday announced the decision, saying that till date more than 15 lakh kg of tomatoes have been procured by NAFED and NCCF since July 14.

In addition, NCCF is also continuously doing retail sale of tomato through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform.

Nirmala Sitharaman said tomatoes are being procured from Maharashtra and Karnataka, and distributed in Delhi-NCR, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan through the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) and other cooperative societies.

Centre has directed the NAFED, NCCF to procure tomatoes from AP, Karnataka, Maharashtra for distribution in key consuming centres.
