According to NTA officials, 15.97 lakh candidates from across the country have registered for NEET, which is a pen-paper based test unlike JEE. The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE Main), which began on September 1 for admission to engineering colleges, will conclude on Sunday.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia reiterated his demand that medical and engineering entrance exams NEET and JEE be postponed and the Central government work on alternative methods for selecting students. He said the Central government should immediately postpone the exams and work on "alternative methods" of admission.

The NEET 2019 was conducted by the NTA on May 5 and May 20.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will be the first institute to conduct JEE (Mains) under NTA in December 2018. 

CBSE on Thursday extended the last date for submitting the application for NEET till March 12.
