The amendment proposal seeks split some of the districts of the present Province No 5 and to incorporate them in Province no 4 and 6. Against this proposed change and in favour of a unified Province 5, thousands of people across party lines have joined hands since Wednesday morning.

Amid reports that it has restricted supplies of essential goods to Nepal, India on Wednesday said it has not imposed any "embargo" on the movement of goods and the obstructions were caused by the unrest in the country.
Normal life was severely hit in eastern Nepal on Thursday as an ethnic group called a separate two- day general strike in nine districts of the region, demanding that the districts be merged into one federal province in the draft constitution.
