Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday slammed opposition parties for stalling a bill that seeks to accord constitutional status to the OBC commission, questioning why they stopped its passage in the Rajya Sabha when it aims to benefit backward castes.

The government will bring in the Lok Sabha a bill for the formation of a commission for backward castes on the lines of the ones for scheduled castes and minorities in the next few days, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said on Tuesday.
Opposition parties led by the Samajwadi Party on Friday forced a brief adjournment of proceedings in the Rajya Sabha alleging a move to disband the OBC Commission, a charge vehemently denied by the government.
