India and England are set to play a five-match Test series starting on June 20. The cricketing ties between these two nations have always been close. India’s star batter Virat Kohli has taken part in 31 ODI matches against the Blackcaps and smashed 24 sixes as of now.

Stokes slammed ECB in an interview ahead of the ODI vs South Africa and said that cricketers should not be treated as cars who you fuel and up and they will be ready to go again. Stokes retirement from ODIs also gives an indication that the format is dying as cricketers are priortising Test cricket and T20s. 

On this day, fifty one years ago, the first One-Day International (ODI) was played between Australia and England. 

The legendary Indian cricketer scripted the history in his 435th match for India in the 50-over format and 66th ODI against the Aussies. Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya is standing second on the list of players with most ODI runs with 13, 377 runs, followed by former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting with 12,241 runs. Tendulkar also finished his career as the leading run-getter in the longest format of the game with 15,921 runs.

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly recorded his best bowling figures in the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) during his side's match arch-rivals Pakistan in Toronto. Ganguly's career-best figures of five for 16 helped India bundle out Pakistan for 148 runs and guide his side to 34-run win. Ganguly's best bowling figures in the longest format of the game was three for 28 against Australia.

England and Ireland are slated to play three-match ODI series, beginning at Ageas Bowl in Southamptom on August 30.

On this day last year, Sri Lankan pace spearhead Lasith Malinga had announced his retirement from One-Day International (ODI) cricket.

Tendulkar bowled a total of 8,054 deliveries in 463 matches he played during his illustrious career in the 50-over format.
