Unified Pension Scheme Last Date: To implement the UPS, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) released the necessary regulations on March 19, 2025.  

Unified Pension Scheme Notification 2025: The Unified Pension Scheme is applicable to Central Government employees already enrolled in the NPS and will be available to those who have completed at least 10 years of qualifying service.

NPS is mandatory for all new recruits in the central government service from January 1, 2004 (except the armed forces), Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

The organisers of the rally said that four states have already announced implementation of the OPS, then why cannot the Centre implement it. 

Old Pension Scheme: The DoPT has said that members of AIS selected through Civil Services Examination, 2003, Civil Services Examination, 2004 and Indian Forest Service Examination, 2003 are eligible.

Rajasthan Chief Minister said that India is among the top six-seven largest economies of the world because of the plans and schemes made in 70 years and not because of the Narendra Modi government.

The state governments of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have informed the Centre about their decision to revert to the old pension scheme and have requested a refund of the corpus accumulated under the NPS. 

The demonstrators had gathered under the banner of the 'Old Pension Scheme (OPS) Restoration Struggle Committee' and a representative of the panel, while speaking to reporters in Panchkula, claimed that a few employees had suffered injuries during the police action.  

Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, stated that the state education department is researching the old pension plan and that the state government is "positive" about implementing the plan for teachers and other public servants in Maharashtra.

RBI has warned against some states reverting to the old pension plan (OPS).

Himachal Pradesh has announced to restore the old pension scheme (OPS) for 1.36 lakh employees. Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab are others states where the Old pension scheme (OPS) have rolled out by the state governments for employees. The Central govt discontinued Old pension scheme from April 1, 2004.

Chhattisgarh govt asks its employees to choose between old and new pension scheme. All govt employees appointed after July 2022 will fall under old pension scheme automatically. Earlier, Rajasthan govt said to revive old pension scheme in the state.

"The government won't provide pensions in accordance with the previous plan. The state will become bankrupt if the outdated pension plan is implemented since it will incur a burden of Rs 1,10,000 crore: Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis

The question was being sought by President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Asaduddin Owaisi on whether the Government proposes to return to OPS in near future. Union Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Kisanrao Karad responded in Lok Sabha.

Ashok Gehlot alleged that Bhartiya Janata Party is "against" the Old Pension Scheme and said that it should be implemented across the nation like it did in Rajasthan and Punjab

The Punjab government has approved the Old Pension Scheme for its employees currently covered under New Pension Scheme (NPS) fulfilling a long pending demand of employees of the state.
