Sowing area of pulses has increased by 80 percent to 11.04 lakh hectares during this kharif season so far on better rains and higher support price announced by the government, but area under paddy lags behind.
Area under coverage for paddy has risen by 17 percent so far in this Kharif season at 2.68 lakh hectares amid forecast that monsoon rains will hit Kerala on May 30, two days ahead of its schedule.
