A LeT commander who is among top 10 terrorists, is trapped in an encounter with security forces in Pampore. Umar Mustaq Khandey was also involved in killing of two police personnel in Srinagar

The 70-room, seven-storey Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Institute (JKEDI) is located at Pampore on the banks of the river Jhelum and 12 km from the Srinagar city centre.

State Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh were present at the ceremony and paid their respects.

The development comes days after the deadly Pampore encounter happened in J&K in which five security personnel, three militants and one civilian were killed.

As per reports, mosques in several localities like Frestabal, Drangbal, Kadlabal and Sempora played songs and recordings on Monday praising the terrorists.

 Lance Naik Om Prakash who was killed while fighting terrorists in Pampore of South Kashmir's Pulwama district was cremated with full state honours at his native Chikker village, about 50 km from here Monday.

The operation against the guerrillas started only after around 120 trainees and staff members were safely evacuated from the complex.

A fierce encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pampore is still underway to eliminate a group of heavily armed militants beloved to be associated with Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) holed up inside the Entrepreneurs Development Institute (EDI) building. 

Earlier on Sunday, Captain Pawan Kumar of 10 Para Regiment was killed when he entered the JKEDI multi-storeyed building in which the guerrillas are holed up.
