The State Election Commission of Punjab Monday ordered repolling at 14 booths of eight districts of the state following reports of "irregularities" at some booths during the gram panchayat elections.

Around 8,000 candidates are in fray for the post of sarpanchs and panchs in Punjab.

The BJP has bagged 10,953 seats, followed by the Congress 8,646, Independents 2,927 as counting for the 26,808 posts across the state continued, Assam State Election Commissioner (ASEC) said in a press release.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanked the people for taking part in the election in large numbers and voting for "development and good governance".

Polling is being held in 10 districts of Assam in the final phase of panchayat polls.
