On January 23 India will celebrate the 128th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
This special day is commonly referred to as Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti or Parakram Diwas, meaning Day of Valour.
This day pays tribute to his incredible contributions and leadership during the fight for India’s independence.
The Prime Minister also earlier interacted with Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) awardees and engaged in a freewheeling interaction with them at his residence in the national capital on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the model of the National Memorial dedicated to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on the occasion of Parakram Divas. Along with this, he also named 21 islands, which have been named after 21 Param Vir Chakra winners.
The government recently announced that Netaji's birth anniversary - January 23 - would mark the start of Republic Day celebrations instead of a day later. Bose's birth anniversary is observed as Parakram Divas
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who was supposed to deliver a speech, had fumed over the "insult" and said, it was a government programme and not a political event.
Surendra Jain of VHP stated, 'What Mamata Banerjee did yesterday reflects her anti-Hindu mindset and her efforts towards appeasement politics.'
Chandra Kumar Bose said there was nothing wrong with the slogan and Netaji's birth anniversary should not be mixed with politics.

Bose was an Indian nationalist and a well-known patriot who fought against the British rule. He founded the first Indian armed force - Azad Hind Fauj as a way to retaliate to British forces. Even people unfamiliar with Bose’s historic achievements and journey recognize his famous slogans - ‘Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe aazdi dunga’, or ‘Jai Hind’ which still instill a strong feeling of patriotism in us.

The announcement was made by the Union Ministry of Culture, which said, “To honour and remember Netaji’s indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation. The GoI has decided to dedicate his birthday (January 23) every year as “Parakram Diwas”.
