Ousted South Korean President Park Geun-Hye`s own political party expelled her Friday as it seeks to distance itself from the sprawling corruption scandal that led to her impeachment.

Prosecutors on Tuesday demanded a harsher punishment for the heir to the Samsung empire, appealing against a court ruling that sentenced him to five years in prison for bribery.

The party chief expressed the hope that the case may act as an opportunity for Samsung to become a socially responsible company.
