The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on July 21 (Monday), with the Opposition INDIA bloc geared up to corner the PM Modi-led Centre on several key issues. While the Centre is set to introduce several key bills during the session.
In the Lok Sabha, the government listed two bills—the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023—that were passed by the Rajya Sabha in the monsoon session. The bill on the selection of election commissioners is likely to prove contentious.
With the new Parliament building preparing to hold its first session, staff members are likely to get new uniforms among the many changes. While Marshals in Parliament will get cream-coloured kurtas instead of safari suits, the PGD or the security group protecting Parliament will also get a new uniform. The women employees will get sarees of a new design, replacing the old.
