Particulate matters News
The levels of noise pollution and particulate matters exceed permissible limits in most locations in Delhi where nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels too cross the permissible threshold in some locations.
The average levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10, microscopic particles that can be embeded deep into the lungs and subsequently the bloodstream, were 296 and 479 micrograms per cubic metre respectively, an IMD official said.
As the air pollution in the national capital rose to hazardous levels, experts suggested that residents take taking precautionary measures such as wearing anti-pollution face-masks even when indoors as the suspended particles can enter houses through windows.
Scientists have warned of high air pollution levels in Delhi in the coming days.
As the day progressed, suspended particulate matters (PM 2.5 and 10) shot up to unhealthy levels across the capital, leading to the World Air Quality Index issuing a health alert.
Delhi's air quality took a turn for the worse today with it being recorded as "very poor" as the level of particulate matters spiked across the city thus breaching the safe category by a long distance, a condition expected to persist at least for the coming few days.
