Hectic campaigning is on for the October 11 Vengara Assembly be-election, with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) looking favourites to win the seat that was vacated by party leader PK Kunhalikutty after he was elected to the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency in April.
IUML legislator PK Kunhalikutty was on Monday elected to the Lok Sabha from Malappuram in Kerala by a margin of 171,023 lakh votes. The winner called it a victory for "secular politics".
With 5,15,330 votes, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) strongman and sitting legislator PK Kunhalikutty won with the margin of 1,71,023 lakh votes.
The Malappuram Lok Sabha by-election got into top gear on Monday with IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty filing his nomination and CPI-M`s MB Faizal launching his campaign from the home of legendary Communist EMS Nampoothirpad.
